Farsi · Pronunciation Guide
Say 'GOHM KAR-dahn' — gom means 'lost', kardan is 'to do', so literally 'to make lost'.
gom kardan
Gom is a single syllable and inherently stressed; kardan carries its own stress on 'kar-' — GOM KAR-dan.

'او کیفش را گم کرد' (U kif-esh rā gom kard, 'He/She lost his/her bag') combines کیف ('bag') with the possessive suffix -esh ('his/her'); the whole possessed noun still takes را as the direct-object marker (kif-esh rā), showing رā attaches after possessive suffixes too, not just bare nouns.
English speakers often leave gom and kardan un-glued as if gom were just a free-floating adjective — but gom kardan is a fixed transitive light verb ('to lose something'), distinct from گم شدن (gom shodan, 'to become/get lost', intransitive), used for people or things losing themselves. Mixing these two up is the classic mistake.
