In the example "In ketāb māl-e man ast" (این کتاب مالِ من است), māl takes the unwritten ezafe vowel "-e" before the possessor (man), giving "māl-e man" — literally "belonging-of me." This ezafe link is never written in the script but is always pronounced when māl is followed by its owner.
Where English speakers slip
