IS-li-yay — three beats, with two short vowels and a long e only at the end.
isliye
Two light syllables leading to one heavy one, so the word climbs toward its ending. The dip in the middle is what distinguishes it rhythmically from the two-syllable connectives around it, and compressing it is the commonest error.

"Aaj chhuṭṭee hai, isliye dukaan band hai" puts the consequence clause second, which is the reverse of kyonki's arrangement in the very next entry. Chhuṭṭee has both an aspirated छ and a doubled retroflex ट्ट, so the first clause is phonetically much harder than the second.
Learners collapse it to "is-lyay," losing the middle vowel, and darken the l. Keep three distinct beats with a genuinely short i in the middle, and keep the tongue tip on the ridge with the tongue body low so the l stays bright.
