Hindi · Pronunciation Guide
khuh-RAAB — a puff after the k, a throwaway schwa, one tap, and a long aa closed by a voiced b.
kharaab
A light schwa syllable running into a heavy one — long vowel plus coda — so the word broadens as it goes. The aspiration adds audible time at the front without adding weight, which is a distinction worth keeping straight when you check your own rhythm.

"Aaj meree tabeeyat kharaab hai" uses tabeeyat, a Persian-derived feminine noun, so meree takes the feminine ending; kharaab itself is invariant. This is also the word Hindi reaches for when talking about health or weather, where English would just say "bad."
Dropping the aspiration gives "karaab," and an American r turns the second syllable into a rhotic drawl that swallows the aa. Devoicing the final b toward p is the third English reflex. Deal with them in order: puff, tap, voicing.
