pu-RAA-naa — three beats, with an unaspirated p, a short u, and two long aa vowels.
puraanaa
Light, heavy, heavy — the short first syllable feeds two long ones. Since both long vowels are the same, the word can sound monotonous unless the first syllable is kept genuinely brief for contrast.

"Voh imaarat bahut puraanee hai" switches the adjective to puraanee, feminine, because imaarat is a feminine noun — so the third syllable changes vowel while the first two stay put. Bahut in the middle usually contracts in speech to something close to baut.
Two habits: aspirating the initial p, and turning the medial tap into an American r that swallows the vowels around it. There is also a temptation to lengthen the first vowel to match the others; keep it short, because that contrast is what gives the word its shape.
