Hindi · Pronunciation Guide
Say "saw," not "sow" — औ is one long rounded vowel with no movement in it.
sau
Just one syllable, but a heavy one carried entirely by vowel duration — there is no coda to lean on, so if you clip the vowel the word loses half its body and can be confused with so or se in fast speech.

"Iskee keemat sau rupaye hai" keeps the verb singular even though rupaye is plural, because the grammatical subject is keemat, a feminine singular noun. Say keemat with a dental t at the end, and let sau's rounded vowel sit clearly between two ee-heavy words.
The roman digraph au misleads: English speakers read it as the diphthong of "loud" and add a big jaw movement. Hindi keeps the tongue parked in one position for the whole vowel. Try singing the vowel of "law" on a long note and stopping — that is the target.
