Hindi · Pronunciation Guide
sir with a short lax i and a single flick of the tongue — much shorter than the English word it resembles.
sir
A short vowel closed by a tap makes this one of the briefest nouns in the course. English speakers hear their own word "sir" and give it a long r-coloured vowel, which roughly doubles the syllable's length.

"Mere sir meṁ dard hai" expresses a headache with meṁ rather than any verb of having, and mere is oblique because a postposition follows. Dard has two dental द sounds around a schwa, so the tongue tip is on the teeth twice.
The English word "sir" is a single r-coloured vowel with no separate consonant, and that is exactly what learners produce. Hindi keeps them apart: a short clean vowel first, then one brief tap. If you cannot hear a boundary between them, the r is too long.
